Ο Τζον Γουίλιαμς γεννήθηκε στο Τέξας το 1922 από γονείς αγρότες, και έγινε καθηγητής πανεπιστημίου. Πέθανε το 1994 χωρίς καν να υποψιάζεται την επιτυχία που έχει σήμερα "Ο Στόουνερ".
