Ο Ρομπέρτο Μπολάνιο (Σαντιάγο Χιλής, 1953 - Βαρκελώνη, 2003), μυθιστοριογράφος και ποιητής, επέβαλε την παρουσία του μέσα σε πολύ λίγα χρόνια ανάμεσα στους σπουδαιότερους λατινοαμερικανούς συγγραφείς. Στα δεκαπέντε του μετανάστευσε με την οικογένειά του στο Μεξικό απ΄ όπου επέστρεψε στη Χιλή το 1973 για να υποστηρίξει το κόμμα του Σαλβαδόρ Αλιέντε. Μετά το πραξικόπημα αναγκάστηκε να καταφύγει στο Μεξικό και στη συνέχεια στην Ισπανία, όπου και εγκαταστάθηκε. Τιμήθηκε με τα βραβεία Herralde και Romulo Gallegos.
