Thanos Veremis is a professor of political history at the University of Athens. He is also the president of the National Council for Education in Greece. He has been Constantine Karamanlis professor at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and is the author of many books including, "Greece: The Modern Sequel, 1821-2006".
Ο Θάνος Βερέμης γεννήθηκε στις 26 Αυγούστου 1943 στην Αθήνα. Σπούδασε πολιτική επιστήμη στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Βοστόνης και ιστορία στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης (Trinity College). Το 1978 ήταν Research Associate του Διεθνούς Ινστιτούτου Στρατηγικών Μελετών (Λονδίνο), το 1983 υπήρξε επισκέπτης ερευνητής στο πανεπιστήμιο Χάρβαρντ, το 1987 επισκέπτης καθηγητής στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πρίνστον και το 1993-1994 επισκέπτης καθηγητής στο St. Antony’s College της Οξφόρδης. Από το 1987 είναι καθηγητής πολιτικής ιστορίας στο Τμήμα Πολιτικής Επιστήμης του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, ενώ από το 1988 έως το 1994 υπήρξε διευθυντής του ΕΛΙΑΜΕΠ και έως το 2000 πρόεδρός του. Το 2001-2003 ήταν Constantine Karamanlis Professor στο Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, και το 2004-2010 πρόεδρος του Εθνικού Συμβουλίου Παιδείας (ΕΣΥΠ). Σήμερα είναι δημοτικός σύμβουλος στον Δήμο Αθηναίων.
