Η Χαν Γκανγκ γεννήθηκε το 1970 στη ΓκουάνγκΤζου της Νότιας Κορέας και σε ηλικία 10 ετών μετακόμισε στη Σεούλ. Σπούδασε Κορεατική Λογοτεχνία στο Πανεπιστήμιο ΓιόνΣε. Στα γράμματα εμφανίστηκε το 1993 με πέντε ποιήματα. Την επόμενη χρονιά κέρδισε τον διαγωνισμό της εφημερίδας Σεούλ Σίνμουν για πρωτοεμφανιζόμενους συγγραφείς με την ιστορία της 'Ερυθρή άγκυρα'. Η πρώτη της συλλογή διηγημάτων "Γιόσου" κυκλοφόρησε το 1995. Το βιβλίο "Η χορτοφάγος" (2007) χάρισε στην ίδια την παγκόσμια αναγνώριση, καθώς η αγγλική του μετάφραση (2015) τιμήθηκε με το Διεθνές Βραβείο Booker 2016.
