[...] To follow a career as a photographer, Eleni Leoussi chose to be in England. After studying , she specialised in dance photography, working only in black and white. She settled in North London and married a travel writer with whom she had a son, Jack. Although she made occasional visits to Greece, it wasn΄t until 2002 that the idea of this personal photographic journey took form. Eleni says she didn΄t want to go back to Greece only to take photographs. She needed to go back. She saw this return as the freedom she had many years ago sought in London.
Her project, which took three months of actual travelling, began in Autumn 2002 and finished in October 2003 due to necessary return trips to London. She decided to make the journey as simple and down-tο-earth as possible to get the pictures she wanted. Travelling along made the experience alive and spontaneus. Η Ελένη Λεούση γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα και είναι κάτοικος του Λονδίνου από το 1968.
Πριν φύγει από την Ελλάδα, παρακολούθησε μαθήματα γλυπτικής στο εργαστήριο του Απάρτη στη Σχολή Καλών Τεχνών και μαθήματα στη Σχολή Γραφικών Τεχνών Δοξιάδη.
Στο Λονδίνο σπούδασε φωτογραφία για τρία χρόνια στο Harrow College of Technology and Art. Τη δεύτερη χρονιά των σπουδών της εκεί, άρχισε να ειδικεύεται στη φωτογράφιση χορού. Έκτοτε η δουλειά της έχει δημοσιευτεί εκτενώς σε βιβλία, περιοδικά εφημερίδες και σε διαφημιστικό υλικό για χορευτές.
Το 1992 το "Hellenic Foundation" ("Ελληνικό Ίδρυμα Ελληνισμού") την βράβευσε ως την "Πιο πολλά υποσχόμενη Ελληνίδα καλλιτέχνιδα που εργάζεται στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο". Έχει πραγματοποιήσει επτά ατομικές εκθέσεις στην Αγγλία και στην Ελλάδα από το 1975 έως το 1998. Έχει συμμετάσχει επίσης σε πολλές ομαδικές εκθέσεις από το 1980 έως το 2004. Το πρώτο της βιβλίο "Rehearsal, photographs of dance" ("Πρόβα, φωτογραφίες χορού"), εκδόθηκε από το βρετανικό εκδοτικό οίκο "Dewi Lewis" το 1999.
